This week’s mix is a little different, in that for every forth mix I’m going to do an artist spotlight. The first artist I’m going to spotlight is the influential and highly respected band Killing Joke, one of my all time favorites.

Killing Joke got their start in 1978 by vocalist Jaz Coleman, guitarist Geordie Walker, bassist Youth (later replaced by Paul Raven), and drummer Paul Ferguson (who left the band in 1985 and return in 2008). From the beginning they found a niche’ between the British Punk and emerging New Wave scenes and along the way created a sound and playing style unique to themselves. Over their long and at times self-destructive career this band has been named as an major influence by a multitude of bands ranging from Metallica to Nirvana to Nine Inch Nails.

For more information checkout the entry on Wikipedia, it gives an excellent overview of the many phases Killing Joke has gone through during their 30+ year history together. Also to be released sometime in 2011 is a documentary about the band called The Death and Resurrection Show.

For those looking to add Killing Joke to you collection here is my top 10 to get you started:
